Unniarcha and Aromal Unni is a ballad that narrates the sisterly love of Unniarcha for his brother Aromal Unni. This poem is part of the Vadakkan Pattukal. It is a collection of Malayalam ballads.
Unniarcha and Aromal Unni were siblings. Unniarcha showed all the love and loyalty that anyone expects a sister to show. Kannappa Chekavar was their father. He was an expert in martial arts.
Unniarcha and Aromal Unni learned martial arts from their childhood itself. Later Unniarcha was married to Attumanamel Kunjiraman. Even though she was at her husband’s house she was concerned about her brother.
Unniarcha dreamt of his brother making his maiden duel. She was worried about it as the dream ended with a melancholic scene.
She decided to visit his brother. she expected to block him before he begins his duel. She completely forgot that it was a dream. This part depicts her innate love and care for her brother.
This poem also focuses on her commitment and obligation which she also maintained towards her husband’s family. When she decided to visit her brother, she did all her household work and informed her parent’s in law about her journey.
